Warm/Hot Weather Packing List

Recommend packing in storage tote, backpack or gym bag and put each day's set of clothes in a Ziploc bag.

Clothing and personal property should be permanently marked with Scout's name and Troop number.

Medications must be in original containers with Scout's name, medication name and dose and in a plastic bag and then given to Leader prior to leaving for camp.

Clothing (adjust for weather forecast)

  • Official Scouting America Uniform
    • Wear to camp and other times during camp
  • Socks - 2 pair for each day, at least
  • T-shirts (Class "B" and/or non-offensive)
  • Underwear (for each day + extra)
  • Long Pants (at least 1 pair)
  • Shorts
  • Sleepwear
  • Hiking Shoes/Boots (broken in)
  • Extra Pair of Shoes
  • Raingear/Poncho
  • Light Jacket/Sweatshirt
  • Water shoes as applicable
  • Bandana—sweat control
  • Bathing suit as applicable and beach towel
    • activity appropriate; no bikinis

Toiletries/Hygiene

Showers may not be available on short term camps

  • Lip balm
  • Toothbrush and Toothpaste
  • Comb or Brush
  • Hair ties
  • Deodorant
  • Shampoo
  • Soap in a carrier or plastic bag
  • Towels and Washcloths
  • Shower Shoes/cheap plastic sandals

Camping Gear

  • Flashlight/lantern (with extra batteries)
  • REUSABLE Water Bottle or Canteen
  • Multiple plastic shopping bags and/or trash bags for wet/dirty items

Bedding

  • Sleeping Pad
  • Sleeping Bag or Blankets (multiple if colder; check temp rating on sleeping bag)
  • Flat Twin Sheet – helps on warm nights
  • Pillow and Pillowcase
  • Tent or Mosquito Netting

Other Items (as applicable)

  • Sunscreen
  • Bug Spray
  • Personal First Aid Kit
  • Medications (see note above)
  • Scouts BSA Handbook—in ziploc
  • MB Pamphlets/Work Sheets
  • Bible/Prayer Book
  • Watch
  • Hat/Cap
  • Sunglasses
  • Pocket Knife - only if they have Totin' Chip
  • Notebook and Pencils for Assignments
  • Compass
  • Camera and Film – disposable is good
  • Money (not usually needed but may have a Trading Post with souvenirs and snacks and MB extra fees)
  • Kleenex
  • Day pack/string bag
  • Camp Chair
  • NO FOOD IN SCOUT'S BAGS OR TENTS
  • NO Axes, saws, fireworks, other weapons
  • Electronic devices are allowed but will have limited use and troop is not responsible for damaged/broken/lost
